EADCO: Years of Impact in Africa

In response to the famine and humanitarian crises affecting the Horn of Africa in 2000, a diverse group of professionals and community leaders from the East African community in Minneapolis/St. Paul united with a shared purpose. They sought to harness their collective resources and energy to make a meaningful difference for families in the Horn of Africa. From these discussions, the East Africa Community Development Organization (EADCO) was born, driven by the mission to address these pressing challenges and foster sustainable change.

EACDO:

The East Africa Community Development Organization has built an outstanding track record of success in supporting some of the most vulnerable populations in the Horn of Africa, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and rural communities.

Committed to uplifting these groups, the organization delivers immediate crisis relief—such as food and medical supplies—while fostering long-term development through education, self-sufficiency initiatives, and improved access to clean water.

Our Approach to Helping

The East Africa Community Development Organization (EADCO) stands out among its peers through its deep connection to the Horn of Africa. Unlike many organizations, EADCO focuses on empowering its supporters’ and founders’ own communities in need, creating a uniquely personal and impactful mission.

EADCO’s staff bring a profound understanding of the region—they speak its languages, navigate its cultural complexities, and are intimately aware of the challenges faced by its people. Their passion lies in empowering and sustaining their brothers and sisters in the Horn of Africa.

Rooted in the region, EADCO has cultivated a robust network of field offices staffed by talented and dedicated teams. These teams build meaningful relationships with communities, ensuring that EADCO programs address the diverse and urgent needs throughout the Horn.

Registered as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization based in Minnesota, EADCO remains committed to creating sustainable and transformative change for the communities it serves.

East Africa Community Development Organization (EACDO) is to empower communities across East Africa by promoting sustainable development, peace, and social justice. Through education, advocacy, and capacity-building, we address key challenges such as poverty, inequality, and conflict, fostering local solutions for long-term positive change and regional cooperation. Our goal is to create a more inclusive, resilient, and secure future for all.

East Africa Community Development Organization (EACDO) is to see a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable East Africa where communities are empowered, inequalities are reduced, and human rights are upheld for all.
